What is Ohio Vax-2-School?

Ohio Vax-2-School is a public outreach campaign consisting of a series of statewide drawings to increase awareness of the availability and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and provide incentives to younger Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

Beginning October 4, 2021, Ohioans 12 to 25 years of age, who have received at least their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination if receiving the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose if receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, have a chance to win one of 150 scholarships worth $10,000 each and five $100,000 scholarships to an Ohio college or university for career or technical education.

Any young Ohioan age 5 to 11, may also be registered by their legal guardian if a COVID-19 vaccination is authorized for use in this age group by the FDA and administered prior to the registration deadline.

Who is eligible for Ohio Vax-2-School?

Is a parent or legal guardian required to enter the drawing on behalf of their minor child?

Yes, a parent or legal guardian must enter the drawing on behalf of their minor child or person under a guardianship. By entering your minor child or person under a guardian, you are providing permission for the Ohio Department of Health to verify vaccination status with health care providers and use and share the winners name and/or likeness in media.

How do I enter the Ohio Vax-2-School drawing?

Entry must be completed through ohiovax2school.com. If you do not have access to the internet, the Ohio Lottery is partnering with the Ohio Department of Health to assist you with submitting an entry by phone. The call center is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT and can be reached at 1-833-4- ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).

How will the Department of Health know if I have been vaccinated?

By submitting an entry for Vax-2-School, you agree to allow the Ohio Department of Health to access your vaccination records, or the records of your minor child if submitted on his/her behalf, to verify that you have received a vaccination. This includes contacting your provider if for some reason, your vaccination record is not available to the Department of Health. You may also be asked to provide your vaccination card for verification. Additional information is available in the Official Rules.

How long will Ohio Vax-2-School run?

The drawing entry period begins Monday, October 4, 2021 and will be closed on a future date as determined by the Ohio Department of Health. The drawing schedule will be announced via Twitter and Instagram @ohiovax2school and at ohiovax2school.com.

Can I enter the drawing more than one time?

Only one entry per person will be accepted and all duplicate entries will be removed prior to the drawing being held. A parent or guardian may submit up to one entry per minor child.

Can I still participate in this drawing if I also registered for the Vax-a-Million drawings but did not win anything?

Yes, as long as you meet all the eligibility requirements for this drawing, you may register for the Ohio Vax-2-School drawings.

What can the scholarship be used for?

The scholarship account can be used for qualified tuition and related expenses including expenses associated with room and board, and payment of existing student loan debt up to $10,000. Winners will be notified of the specific permitted uses of the funds along with its accompanying terms and conditions by the Plan.

I only have 1 year left of school, what can I use the scholarship for?

Can I use the scholarship anywhere or does the school have to be located in Ohio?

Scholarship funds may be put towards enrollment at any college or university located or doing business in Ohio for a four-year program, two-year program, graduate program, community college, or technical/trade school.

When is the deadline to enter for Ohio Vax-2-School?

The entry deadline will be determined and announced by the Ohio Department of Health and announced via Twitter and Instagram @ohiovax2school and at ohiovax2school.com.

Where will the Ohio Vax-2-School winners be announced?

Winner announcements will occur on a future date as determined by the Ohio Department of Health. The grand prize winners will be announced on the Lottery broadcast at approximately 7:29 p.m. EDT on the day of award.

When will the Vax-2-School drawings be conducted?

The drawings will be conducted on a future date as determined by the Ohio Department of Health and announced one week prior to that date, but no later than December 1, 2021.

What are the prizes for Ohio Vax-2-School?

Thirty (30) $10,000 scholarships will be awarded every day for 5 days for a total of one hundred fifty (150) with an additional five (5) $100,000 scholarships awarded the last day of the drawing. Drawing dates and awards will be announced by the Ohio Department of Health via Twitter and Instagram @ohiovax2school and updated on the ohiovax2school.com website.

Am I responsible for any taxes on these prizes?

Awarded scholarship amounts will be deposited into an Ohio 529 CollegeAdvantage account on behalf of the winner and subject to all regular terms and conditions for such plans. I attend college in Ohio and received my shot in Ohio, but my permanent residence is in another state. Am I eligible to enter Vax-2-School?

No, you must be an Ohio resident to be eligible for the promotion.

I won an Ohio Vax-a-Million prize, am I eligible to enter Ohio Vax-2-School?

No, if you/your child won a prize in the Ohio Vax-a-Million drawing, you/your child are not eligible to participate in Ohio Vax-2-School.

Is anyone not eligible?

Certain individuals are not eligible for the drawing. To be eligible, an individual must be a living Ohio resident, U.S. citizen, 12 to 25 years of age, who have not won a Vax-a-Million prize, and not incarcerated for a felony, and you are not in the custody of the Department of Youth Services. Additionally, employees, and officers of the Ohio Governor’s Office, Ohio Department of Health, and Ohio Lottery Commission, or any blood relative or spouse of such an employee or officer living as a member of the employee’s or officer’s household, are not eligible. How will I be notified if I win the prize?

If you/your child’s entry is selected in a daily Vax-2-School drawing, your name will be announced via Twitter and Instagram @ohiovax2school at approximately 3:30p.m. EDT. Winners can also be located at ohiovax2school.com. You will be contacted via the contact information provided on your entry form.

Grand prize winners will be announced on a future date determined by the Ohio Department of Health around 7:29 p.m. EDT, on the day of award. A listing of TV stations where the announcement will be available is below. The winners will also be posted on ohiovax2school.com after the announcement.

Eligibility

Who is eligible for the Ohio Vax-2-School?

Once I enter, will I/my child be eligible for all of the drawings?

Once you enter, your entry will be carried over through all the Vax-2-School drawings.

Can I/my child win more than once?

No, if you/your child win a daily drawing for a $10,000 scholarship, your entry will be removed from all future Ohio Vax-2-School drawings.

How will I know if I have been entered into the drawing?

Once you have entered via ohiovax2school.com, an entry confirmation will be displayed immediately after a successful entry. You will not receive an email confirmation.

Can I still enter if I am an Ohio resident but was vaccinated in another state?

Yes, you will need to present proof of vaccination.

Do I/my child need have to be vaccinated before I submit my/my child’s entry or before the drawing takes place?

You/your child must have received at least their first dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose if receiving Johnson & Johnson vaccine, before the drawing you entered has occurred and the end of the entry period. For example, for the first drawing, you must be vaccinated before and have submitted your entry prior to the deadline as determined by the Ohio Department of Health.

Who is responsible for the Ohio Vax-2-School?

The Ohio Department of Health is sponsoring the drawings and the Ohio Lottery is providing technical support and conducting the drawings.

Where will the money for the prizes come from?

The Ohio Department of Health is using a portion of its Coronavirus Relief Funds to fund this innovative public outreach campaign and initiative. The U.S. Treasury, under the direction of Presidents Trump and Biden, have authorized funds for broad COVID-19 response purposes. Ohio is using a portion of its unspent funds to share information about the availability and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and to encourage additional Ohioans to become vaccinated to stop the disease and boost our public health and continued economic recovery.
